Director for Health Promotion and Prevention Education
The University of Delaware is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking leader to serve as the next Director for Health Promotion and Prevention Education. With the goal of supporting the lifelong success and wellness of over 23,000 students, the University aims to foster a culture of holistic health and wellbeing by providing integrated services and focusing on prevention education and skill building. The Director will be instrumental in renaming, setting the strategy for, and aligning the unit with others in the Wellbeing portfolio, as well as leading a multi-disciplinary team of health promotion and prevention educators. This is an exciting time to join a newly established health and wellbeing leadership team and to shape health promotion and prevention education at a major research institution committed to the values of academic freedom, diversity and inclusion, innovation, community, and service.
The department is housed within the recently renovated Wellbeing Center in Warner Hall—designed as an inclusive and vibrant "neighborhood for wellbeing" that promotes student engagement with, and access to, health and wellness resources. The Director will play a valuable role in supporting ongoing integration and collaboration with other key health and wellness partners and services within the Division of Student Life, as well as faculty, staff, and students across the broader University. The University has adopted the Okanagan Charter—an internal framework and call to action for post-secondary schools to embed health into all aspects of campus culture and to lead health promotion action and collaboration locally and globally. Competitive candidates will have strong knowledge of, and experience in, population-level health promotion and education efforts serving young adults in areas including but not limited to substance abuse, gender-based violence, sexual health, and mental health programming and education; a commitment to innovative and cutting-edge approaches grounded in evidence-based best practices; well-honed communication, interpersonal, and change management skills; and a demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders. Finally, the ability to foster a strong team dynamic, a passion for student engagement, and a demonstrated history of quality supervisory skills are essential skills for success in this role.
Position Summary Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Student Wellbeing, the Director serves as a member of the Student Wellbeing leadership team along with the Executive Director of Student Health Services (SHS) and the Director of the Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD). The Director is a key partner in building a holistic strategy for, and definition of, health and wellness in fulfillment of the mission and aims of the vibrant Division of Student Life. The Director is a strategic partner with Student Life departments and collaborates with academic units, UD colleges, and other campus partners as appropriate to enhance the collective work and outcomes of the Wellbeing units. This leadership role also contributes to the development, implementation, and analysis of student health assessment strategies that 1) provide baseline and follow-up health data, 2) identify departmental needs and priorities, 3) evaluate effectiveness of interventions and measure learning outcomes, 4) track trends in student health status and behavior, and 5) inform decisions.
