The Assistant Vice President for Supply Chain Site Operations and Logistics will provide overall organizational leadership for all Supply Chain operations, operations and activities across all point-of-care locations within DUHS, including acute, non-acute and ambulatory surgery center environments, linen operations and inbound / outbound freight management, for Duke University Health System ("DUHS"), and for Duke University ("DU") in regard to inbound and outbound freight management, as required (collectively referred to as "DUKE").
The Assistant Vice President for Supply Chain Site Operations and Logistics will provide overall organizational leadership for all Supply Chain associates responsibilities, Administer strategies to ensure optimal level of department customer service and communication efforts. Identify and execute performance and process improvement objectives, strategies and tactics for all Supply Chain operations, including all linen-related operations, in support of both DUH and DUHS goals and objectives in order to promote an efficient and effective supply chain operations program in support of patient care and patient care operations. Provide leadership and direction to all Supply Chain operations associates in order to implement and utilize standard operating procedures and balanced scorecards in order to develop and ensure an optimal level of departmental performance, standards, customer service, operational efficiency and communication efforts.
This position The Assistant Vice President for Supply Chain Site Operations and Logistics will need to be a high energy, highly organized and analytically focused individual, who has strong interpersonal and influencing skills across a continuum of clinical care and operating environments, system leaders, physicians and clinical care providers, as well as national and local supplier relationships.
This position will provide executive leadership, prioritization, coaching, mentoring and focused administrative direction and oversight for all Supply Chain site operations activities. In addition, this position will also provide oversight for any budgeting, capital planning, vendor/contract management, analytics, benchmarking and alignment of supply chain operations and strategic sourcing related resources. The AVP will be responsible to coordinate and lead operational budgets, determine of fiscal requirements of assigned departments, review budgetary recommendations and then monitor, verify, and reconcile the monthly expenditures in relation to overall budgets.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Provide executive level leadership for all Supply Chain site-based supply chain distribution functions for all DUHS clinical point-of-care locations in regard to areas of inventory management, supply and linen distribution, quality assurance and value improvement. Provides executive leadership regarding waste elimination, inventory standardization and the deployment of a consistent demand-based inventory management technology platform. Provide executive leadership and governance oversight related to all distribution partnerships, including channel optimization and the appropriate maximization of logical unit of measure.
Provide executive leadership oversight to all directors, managers and supervisors to ensure high level of customer satisfaction and fiscal responsibility. Serves as a resource to the Supply Chain service team regarding process, procedures and systems; and facilitate changes as needed.
Executive leadership necessary in order to plan, coordinate and administer the financial, administrative and technical operations of Supply Chain. Will provide budget approval.
Provide executive leadership responsible to attain conformance to budgetary, planning and objectives, and initiates corrective action as necessary.
Responsible for executive leadership to collaboratively interact with points of operations and clinical leadership and staff in Supply Chain to develop and maintain programs and processes designed to ensure compliance of service delivery standards; take appropriate actions by implementing and managing customer service contracts and surveys.
Demonstrates executive leadership necessary to troubleshoot and resolve all operational issues, identifying an immediate and long term solution. Implement changes to improve operations. Recommend and establish organizational committees related to the effective functioning of the organization objectives; seek opportunities to promote the vision and values of the organization.
Serve as an executive level operational and technical resource to Supply Chain in the communication and resolution of related issues; negotiate successful resolution and educational about Supply Chain. Ensure appropriate allocation of personnel to meet staffing and scheduling needs; assist subordinate leaders in resolving employee relations issues; participate in the interviewing, selection hiring and training of staff.
Monitors and reports quality and productivity metrics and takes appropriate action. Provides executive leadership oversight both in operational, financial and talent management balanced scorecard methodologies and governance.
Provides system-wide executive leadership and oversight in relation to Supply Chain emergency preparedness and operational execution. Responsible for system-wide management of personal protection equipment (PPE) Supply Chain processes and procedures, including the management of emergency cache inventory levels and storage locations.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare, or related field. Preferred degree or operational expertise in logistics. Advanced degree or similar work experience preferred.
Experience:Ten (10) years of experience in logistics, supply chain, or healthcare leadership/management. Leadership experience required in both the acute-care and non-acute care environments, with specific operations, inventory management and distribution experience in the ambulatory surgery environment. Executive leadership experience with healthcare distribution providers required. Experience with point-of-use technology and demand inventory management methodologies a must.

Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of automated Supply Chain functions, including point-of-use technology, Bill Only automation and UDI electronic capture.
Ability to lead and manage a complex array of Supply Chain associates across a continuum of care locations and types.
Possess expert knowledge of preparations and understanding of financial and statistical activity reports. Expert in continuous improvement methodologies, advanced analytical capabilities, 5S, error proofing, visual management, continuous improvement and poke yoke applications.
