The role you’ll contribute:
The Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) is part of the Quality Management department. The CDS assists physicians and other healthcare providers in accurate documentation to support the appropriate clinical picture/ level of severity of patient. In addition, the CDS facilitates modification to clinical documentation supporting the appropriate clinical picture/level of severity rendered to hospital patients and collaborates with the HIM inpatient coding staff to assist their understanding/clarification of documentation leading to appropriately assigning MSDRG representing the patient severity of illness/resource consumption. As a part of the care team assists other team members in identifying opportunities to improve integrity of healthcare documentation.

- Ensures accuracy of data collection and submission; validates integrity of data collected.
- Develops data reports for projects, committees, hospital departments, medical staff departments, as designated.
- Collects, aggregates, analyzes, summarizes and reports quality data for hospital organizational performance and physician performance data as indicates.
- Reviews and applies analytical skills to designated patient population medical record documentation to assess the level of documentation accuracy and completeness.
- Assists to identify the most appropriate principal diagnosis and co-morbidities to accurately reflect several of illness in compliance
- Assigns and monitors DRG assignment to appropriately reflect the accurate severity at admission and throughout hospital stay.
QualificationsThe expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
- Associate degree or Graduate of a Technical School
- Kansas Registered Nurse License
- 1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience
- RN Clinical Experience
