Job Summary
As a member of the Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center (AMRTC) Executive Team, the Nursing Services Director acts as the nursing expert and is responsible for the direct supervision, support, and oversight of nursing practice at AMRTC. The Nursing Services Director ensures delivery of quality care through best practice standards and adherence to regulatory body guidelines through effective collaboration with members of the AMRTC Executive team, direct care staff, and support services. The Nursing Services Director actively engages in program and treatment planning to identify gaps in care and drive best practice changes, ensure a lens of equity and diversity is applied to all client care, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote excellence of care throughout AMRTC. The Nursing Services Director also shares on-call responsibilities with other members of the AMRTC Executive Team to ensure the direct care team has 24/7 access to expert guidance, support, and direction for hospital practice.
In collaboration with administrative staff, the Director of Nursing Services:
- recruits, organizes, evaluates, coordinates, and facilitates nursing and other allied health practices
- oversees deliver of care through guidance of DCT and MHSATS clinical practice expectations
- models behaviors and leads efforts that promote an inclusive, interdisciplinary environment
- uses data and evidence-based practice to complete quality improvement analysis and evaluation of patient care delivery
- promotes standardization of activities that improve quality and maintain compliance with regulatory bodies
Position Drives Operations by:
- Ensuring the consistent and effective use of resource to identify and implement best practice.
- Improving quality and ensuring best patient outcomes through leadership and effective communication.
- Building strategic partnerships within AMRTC and the MHSATS Team members to collaboratively execute strategies that ensure excellent patient care.
- Contributing to the development of the organization’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization.
- Serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and identifying strategic initiatives, addressing budgetary and funding issues, recommending solutions, and ensuring policies and programs meet goals and objectives.
- Managing resources effectively, maximizing retention and minimizing workforce turnover.
- Developing and implementing strategies for continued growth of nursing competencies.
As part of the Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) administration, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Services (MHSATS) Division, the Anoka Regional Treatment Center (AMRTC) provides acute hospital level of care to persons with mental illness. AMRTC offers treatment for adults with mental illness and chemical addiction (often co-occurring), as well as other complex health and comorbid conditions. Multidisciplinary teams provide care in an inpatient hospital guided by evidence-based practices and a person-centered treatment philosophy. Patients have been civilly committed by a state court.
The Director of Nursing serves at the will of the appointing authority.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing (Preferred) or a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a Master’s degree in business or a health-related field
- A valid Minnesota RN license to practice nursing.
- Five years of administrative/management experience in a large, complex health care delivery organization with emphasis on strategic leadership, program management and design, evaluation, compliance, policy and procedure development and leadership, staff leadership and direction, and optimizing the coordination and quality of services.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or DNP degree in nursing.
- At least five years of nursing leadership experience with proven ability to drive positive change within nursing clinical practice.
- Knowledge of care delivery for persons with serious and persistent mental illness, developmental disabilities, or chemical dependency; health care policy and procedures; and state/federal and accrediting body requirements.
- AACN Executive Nurse Certification
- Knowledge of the DHS and health care compliance environment – legal, regulatory, legislative, etc.
- Knowledge of case management approach, working within an interdisciplinary team, and nursing processes as it applies to persons with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or chemical dependency and their families.
- Crisis intervention expertise and family/patient counseling skills.
- Ability to assume professional, clinical, organizational, and educational responsibilities for leadership of direct care staff who provide care to individuals served by AMRTC.
