Job Summary:
The Inpatient Network Coding Manager organizes, coordinates andevaluates the staff and activities for network-wide coding operations andClinical Documentation Improvement to ensure accurate and timely coding ofinpatient records according to established standards, policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
ADesigns and develops programs and proceduresto utilize internal employee population and assist in selection and negotiationof staffing vendors.AIn collaboration with the Coding Director andSenior Director, provides direction for all hospital Inpatient codingactivities and productivity standards required to reach unbilled targets forNetwork facilitiesAMeets specified Discharge not Final Billed(DNFB) target for all hospital's Inpatient coding population;APlans, organizes, coordinates and evaluatesInpatient staffing requirements to meet operational goals. AManages the assignment and schedules ofdirect reports to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow;AIdentifies opportunities for efficiencies,reviews and implements as approved;AReviews strategic operating goals, objectivesand budgets to predict labor needs and ensure Inpatient coding services meetproductivity, timeliness and quality standards to support financial goals ofthe NetworkAReviews operational performance,justification and/or corrective action for the HIM department Inpatient staffAProvides guidance and motivation to staffregarding identifying activities/areas where performance can be improved. AEnsures collaboration between the InpatientClinical Documentation Improvement and Inpatient Coding function. ADevelops and implements policies andprocedures to ensure clear and consistent operations of Inpatient coding areaswhile encompassing departmental and operational needs. AEnsures integrity of encoder and abstractingsystems by maintenance/revision of data as necessary. AOversees the implementation and ongoingoperation or selection of electronic coding or documentation improvementsoftware, interfaces with billing systems and workflow changes withcomputerized patient information. AIdentifies training needs for Inpatientcoding and operations staffACollaborates with Coding Director and SeniorDirector to schedule and implement training activities as identified, includingtransition to EHR and ICD-10 code changes.AResponds to leadership inquiries regardingInpatient codingACollaborates with Business Offices andPatient Access to eliminate holds on accounts. AParticipates in negotiation of vendorcontracts to ensure compliance AReviews and monitors contract services, andensures network wide and vendor compliance. AReports on issues and makes recommendationsfor changes. ADoes related work as required.Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
7 years of experience in an acute carefacility which included coding of complex Inpatient medical records, appealsand denial management, at least two of which must have been at a manageriallevel.

Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* toward a Master's degreemay be substituted on a year for year basisfor up to two years of the above experience.SpecialRequirements: Must possessand maintain current certification as a Registered Health InformationAdministrator (RHIA) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through the AmericanHealth Information Management Association (AHIMA). Education beyond thesecondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by theBoard of Regents of the New York State Education Department as apost-secondary, degree-granting institution.
