The chosen incumbent shall be responsible for building the organization’s capacity to use Human Centered Design for innovation around health service delivery processes. They shall lead the full-scale implementation of the Center for Innovation strategy set forth in the final grant deliverable and sustainability plan. This includes building competencies through hospital-wide training, building systems of innovation both internally and externally, and building connections by sharing out learnings within the healthcare system, local community, and national audiences. Through implementation of the Innovation Center Grant plan, the Director leads system-wide efforts to develop our culture of innovation; builds organizational skills and competencies in design thinking/human centered design; establishes infrastructure to support project-based learning experiences; develops measures of success and monitors progress; and ultimately is responsible for building a sustainable Innovation Center.
Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Design Strategy, Service Design, Industrial or Systems Engineering, Informatics, Healthcare Management, or closely related field; Master's degree preferred. Seven to ten years of previous work experience at a leadership level in healthcare and human centered design, performance improvement and/or LEAN/Six Sigma. Five to seven years of project management and/or operations experience in either private or public sector health organizations strongly preferred. Strong project management skills and demonstrated experience managing complex projects involving a variety of stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership skills with proven ability to coach and guide teams. Ability to build strong internal and external relationships and successfully implement strategic plans to ensure the growth and sustainability of the innovation center beyond the launch phase. Requires analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment, attention to detail and problem resolution.
Collaborates with senior leadership and innovation team to ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
Serves as the liaison between SJH and external grant funders and community partners.
Manages program initiatives, adhering to project timelines, managing staff, communicating with partners, monitoring ongoing progress and adhering to reporting requirements.
Develops and deploys Human Centered Design/ Design Thinking education plan for innovation Team and SJH staff.
Demonstrates progress through measurement of results and development of dashboard.
Supervises staff as assigned and holds staff accountable in the development of design thinking/human centered design competencies, skills and project deliverables.
Manages budget of innovation center.
Develops and implements the communication plan for internal and external audiences.
Produces and presents written summaries, analyses, and recommendations for projects and grant initiatives to internal staff and external partners.
Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital.
Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.
