BayCare Health System, a leading not-for-profit health system based in Tampa, Florida, has retained WittKieffer to assist in the recruitment of candidates for Director, Risk Services. The position will become vacant due to the planned retirement of the incumbent, who has been part of the system for 15 years. This is an outstanding opportunity to lead the well-regarded risk management program of a 15 hospital regional delivery system that is well-positioned strategically, clinically and financially in a growing market.
Reporting to Janice Polo, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Risk Services will be responsible for all risk management activities of BayCare Health System which include, but are not limited to, the following: coordinating insurance coverage and risk financing, managing claims, interfacing with legal defense counsel, budgeting for and administering the enterprise risk management program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, implementing risk mitigation activities, conducting risk management educational programs, and clinical risk management. The Director, Risk Services acts as a strategic partner with the system leadership team members and provides key leadership and coordination in risk management throughout BayCare Health System. Charged with formulating strategic priorities and operational objectives, the Director, Risk Services will ensure a consistent and optimal approach to minimizing liability and risk exposure while improving patient care.
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Law or Clinical Nursing or an advanced risk management designation. Certification in a Risk Management area is preferred. In addition, candidates must have an outstanding record of achievement with at least ten years healthcare risk management or commercial insurance broker/underwriter or medical malpractice litigation management experience, preferably within a health care system.
