Sr. Project Manager - Patient Safety

Job Summary: To design, manage and execute safety and accreditation projects/programs across the system, diverse departments and populations to achieve continuous improvements in patient care delivery and optimal patient outcomes. Serves as a project manager in collaboration with clinical staff and key stakeholders to improve organizational safety, quality, efficiency, system or processes. Essential Job Responsibilities: Establishes a systematic approach to all aspects of the project/program – assessment and readiness, planning, training, implementation, coaching and sustainment. Develops and oversees the implementation of the assigned project/program, including Root Cause Analysis, FMEA and other patient safety or accreditation teams. Facilitates and motivates personnel and leadership from throughout the system to determine readiness for learning and implementation. Leads the organizational project in collaboration with the Senior Leadership sponsor. Directs development of organizational polices and procedure to guide and support the project/program. Recommends resources to support the project and meet organizational needs. Procures resources including initiation of research grants and other external funding. Maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with clinicians and administrative staff necessary to develop, implement, and evaluate successful project/program. Facilitates and motivates personnel and leadership from throughout the system to implement evidenced based practices. Partners with organizational educational resources to plan curriculum related to the implementation of new project/program. Monitors results against targets in the evaluation of effectiveness and impact. Disseminates strategies and information to communicate strategy and vision and updates on the organizational implementation plans. Presents progress reports/findings on a regular basis to appropriate constituencies within the system. Prepares projects for publication and external presentation. Identifies opportunities for improvement and alternate strategies when goals are not met. Enhances the understanding of project/program through interactions with physicians, administrative staff, staff and other members of the healthcare team. Actively participates in system wide management activities, attends meetings and in-service/educational programs and other activities as requested. Coordinates and facilitates system learning activities associated with safety project/program goals and outcomes. Maintains required credentials; assume responsibility for ongoing professional growth; exhibit a high level of professionalism; act as role model for staff and others in the organization. Maintains confidentiality of patient/members and staff information. Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. Performs other related duties as required.

Education: Masters Degree in Nursing Licenses / Certifications: Current Maryland or Compact RN licensure Experience: Formal project management training or equivalent of five years’ experience in managing senior level complex organizational projects across service lines. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in improvement science methodologies or Root Cause Analysis process. Experience leading, facilitating and participating in multi-disciplinary teams required. Demonstrated sustainment in achievement of desired outcomes and leading transformational change in quality/safety projects. Certification by National Association for Health Care Quality or Certified Professional in Patient Safety within one year of hire. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred. Experience in managing and mentoring other healthcare professionals. Education and/or experience in one or more of the following are desirable: health information technology, performance improvement, systems thinking, outcome analysis, safety science, utilization management, team facilitation education. High Emotional Intelligence (EQ) to manage change within our rapidly evolving healthcare environment Work Schedule: Full-time. This is an exempt position and may require evenings, weekends and holidays. |
