Senior Risk Manager
In this role, you will collaborate and develop a proactive risk management program to prevent or minimize losses in the Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic Region. You will manage, organize, and assist with the implementation of the Regional Risk Management Program and related activities; provide basic and complex preventive risk management assessment of processes, procedures, and programs, including education, consultation, and liaison activities; initiate, coordinate, and manage all investigational and evaluation activities associated with professional and general liability occurrences; and identify/manage actual or potential sources of financial loss arising from injury to the person, property, or reputation of Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic. You will also be responsible for actively monitoring medical device/equipment recalls and developing/coordinating response efforts; functioning as a key member of the Threat Management team; and acting to provide fair and equitable solutions to member disputes, suggesting dispute resolution processes for addressing and managing conflict, and determining appropriate reimbursements/payments under program guidelines. In addition, you will serve to improve patient safety and enhance relations, build trust, and act as a trusted information resource, facilitator, consultant, and practitioner.
At least five years of direct experience in the direction, management, and analysis of patient safety/risk management data, quality, and patient safety in health care/managed care fields
At least five years of clinical health care experience
At least three years of experience with federal and state laws and regulations
At least three years of experience with early resolution, mediation, or dispute resolution
A bachelor’s degree in nursing or other health related field
Must be a Registered Nurse in Maryland, District of Columbia, or Virginia
A current CPHRM designation or must achieve within six months
Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
Strong interpersonal skills, with good verbal and written communication skills
Skills in problem-solving and collaboration with other professions/disciplines
Skill and experience in organizational change management
Demonstrated leadership skills
Knowledge of legal issues and state and federal laws
Knowledge of compliance and accreditation standards
Data management and interpretation skills
Effective communication skills
Strong assessment and analytical skills are necessary
Preferred Qualifications Include:
Advanced proficiency with MIDAS+ reporting system preferred
Early resolution, mediation, or ombudsman experience preferred
Experience with threat management or patient/customer negotiation strategies preferred
Completed coursework in early resolution or mediation preferred
A master’s degree in a related field preferred
