DMC has a long standing academic affiliation with the school of medicine of Wayne State University in Detroit, the nation's largest school on one campus. The Detroit Medical Center University Laboratory (DMCUL) is a regional comprehensive reference lab that offers consolidated diagnostic and consultative services with a large outreach service. DMCUL provides these services to the system multihospital sites in addition to the cancer specialized hospital of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, a designated Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health.
DMCUL also has a state of the art Division of Molecular Genetics with diagnostic laboratories offering testing for inherited genetic diseases and a rapidly expanding molecular oncology and its testing. This division also houses cytogenetics, HLA and biomedical genetic labs. The latter provides testing for the newborn errors of metabolism for the entire state of Michigan for over a decade. Molecular Genetics and other specialized DMCUL divisions, (molecular microbiology, special coagulation and others) are offering their services to a number of laboratories within Tenet markets.

We are seeking candidates with a vision to lead and grow highly established lab and further enhance its effectiveness in patient service, efficiency, and expanding partnerships within DMC and beyond.
Reports to the Market Chief Financial Officer and directs the operational, personnel and financial activities for the Detroit Marketï¿½s Laboratory Services area. Oversees/directs the development of policies/procedures for Laboratory Services; approves policies and seeks other system, regional or clinical service approval as appropriate. Plans and directs all laboratory operations and sales activities with the objective of providing high quality service combined with maximum profit and return on invested capital. Develops short to long range goals and measures for the Laboratory Services and oversees the assessment of goal attainment. Creates and seeks approval of organizational structures. Develops, seeks approval of, monitors and ensures compliance with budget for Laboratory Services. Represents the laboratory with customers, the medical community, and the public. Monitors activities to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, Joint Commission requirements, and DMC policies and procedures. As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations. Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity of their suppliers.
1. Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related Health Science Specialty. Meets CLIA requirements for General Supervisor. Prefer a Masterï¿½s in Allied Health Specialty or Health Administration or Business.
2. Seven years of progressive management experience in an acute care facility. Prefer Lab Director experience.
3. Registered in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or equivalent
