As the system's Risk & Insurance Consultant, within the Risk Services division of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), the position is responsible for managing system-wide commercial lines of property and casualty insurance and self-insurance programs for Sutter Health and Affiliates. The Risk & Insurance Consultant position is assigned primary responsibility for building and overseeing programs that include but are not limited to, Sutter's captive insurance program (SISCO), Property, Professional Liability, Privacy & Security/Cyber Liability, Managed Care Liability, Construction, Directors & Officers, Employment Practices, Workers' Compensation, Auto Liability, Surety bonds, and other lines of insurance. The Senior Risk & Insurance Consultant is responsible for identifying risk and developing recommendations to mitigate risk or loss throughout the organization. The position reports to the Director of the Risk & Insurance Operations Team and develops pro-active risk management programs in collaboration with other members of OGC's senior leadership including Sutter Health's Chief Privacy Officer, Chief Risk Officer, and other system-level VP's from Total Health & Productivity, Finance and Affiliate leadership teams. The Risk & Insurance Consultant has additional accountabilities related to: 1) directing the actuarial consulting engagements utilized for Sutter's captive insurance company, 2) developing the annual insurance budget for the Sutter Health system through strategic planning and analysis, 3) managing activities related to the SISCO claims operations, 4) coordinating activities with Sutter Health's insurance brokers/advisors to accomplish the system-wide insurance operations as well as SISCO's underwriting, policy language, and reinsurer relationships, 5) providing guidance to other members of the Risk & Insurance Operations Team as it relates to consulting with affiliates and other teams within the OGC.
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, business or related field or equivalent education/experience are required.
Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Certified Risk Management (CRM) preferred.
Minimum of five to seven years of experience managing programs of risk management, commercial property and casualty insurance (underwriting or claims) and risk financing with a broad knowledge of healthcare risk programs. Experience with large self-insurance programs or captives required. Experience maintaining financial modeling, quantitative analysis, and risk management techniques are beneficial. Experience in the development, quantification, and analysis of underwriting data and creating spreadsheets, graphs, and report development. Must also have a strong background in the use of a risk management information system (RMIS) or other claims/insurance database management.
