The Chief Compliance Officer provides direction and oversight of the Millennium Healthcare Compliance Program. Responsible for identifying and assessing areas of compliance risk for all entities within Millennium Healthcare; communicating the importance of the Compliance Program to executive management and the Board of Directors; preparing and distributing the written Compliance Manual setting forth the ethical principles, policies and Code of Conduct which are the basis of the Compliance Program; developing and implementing education programs addressing compliance with the Standards and Code of Conduct; implementing a retaliation-free internal reporting process, including an anonymous telephone reporting system; and collaborating with executive management to effectively incorporate the Compliance Program within Millennium Healthcare operations and programs and to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
The Chief Compliance Officer reports to the Chief Executive Officer of Millennium Healthcare and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. Scope of position includes all Millennium Healthcare staff defined as individuals working for or working in affiliation with Millennium Healthcare entities or related parties and as required by contract, independent contractors to a Millennium Healthcare entity. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer of Millennium Healthcare and Board of Directors.
Ensures that the Compliance Program effectively prevents and/or detects violation of law, regulations, Millennium Healthcare policies or the Code of Conduct.
Provides input and/or direction on policies and procedures governing the safety and welfare of patients and employees of Millennium.
Regularly reviews the Compliance Program and recommends appropriate revisions and modifications, including advising senior management and the Board of Directors of potential compliance risk areas.
Coordinates resources to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the Compliance Program.
Implements and operates retaliation free reporting channels, including an anonymous telephone reporting system available to all Millennium Healthcare employees and affiliated providers.
Develops compliance education programs for all Millennium Healthcare employees, agents and affiliated providers.
Ensures that internal controls are established and regularly monitored for preventing and detecting significant instances or patterns of illegal, unethical or improper conduct by Millennium Healthcare staff.
Ensures that Millennium Healthcare has effective mechanisms to reasonably determine that persons either promoted to or hired in management and certain other sensitive and/or responsible positions do not have a propensity to violate federal or state laws and regulations or engage in improper or unethical conduct in their designated areas of responsibility.
Provides input and/or direction to Human Resource policies and procedures and the performance appraisal and incentive programs to ensure that improper conduct is discouraged and that support of and conformity with the Compliance Program is part of any new hire orientation and any performance evaluation process.
Coordinates as appropriate with outside legal counsel, conducting or authorizing and overseeing investigations of matters that merit investigation under the Compliance Program.
Tracks all issues referred to the Compliance Office
Develops productive working relationships with all levels of management.
Presents periodic and annual reports on the Compliance Program to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
Ensures that all contracts contain language which is corporate compliant.
Performs all other duties as assigned from time to time by the CEO.
Masters in Healthcare Administration, relevant area, or JD preferred
Bachelor's degree required
Certification as a compliance professional, either by the Compliance Certification Board (CCEP) or similar healthcare compliance certification.
8+ years of experience in compliance, auditing, health care management, and/or other relevant fields.
Experience with conducting complex compliance investigations, preferably in healthcare.
Legal experience is a plus
Strong preference for at least five to seven years' experience in healthcare compliance matters, which may include past clinical, legal, auditing or other compliance experience.
Knowledge of healthcare compliance and regulatory requirements.
Ability and willingness to demonstrate and maintain competency as required for job title and the unit/area(s) of assignment.
Excellent communication skills to include oral and written comprehension and expression.
Ability and willingness to exhibit behaviors consistent with standards for performance improvement and organizational values.
