Summary:Coordinates the prevention, investigation, and resolution of medical-legal and injury incidents occurring within the Hospital’s venue. Assists in development and implementation of all aspects of the Risk Management and Corporate Compliance programs. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.
Investigates and documents medical-legal, injury, and other unusual events involving patients, visitors, or employees.
Communicates with the Hospital’s insurance representatives and defense counsel regarding information exchange necessary for management of claims
Identifies potential litigation situations and informs the Director of Risk Management accordingly.
Prepares witnesses for deposition and trial testimony.
Attends all depositions involving hospital personnel, attends all trials involving St. Luke’s Health Corporation.
Negotiates non-litigated settlements with claimants.
Assists in development of annual audit plan based on the OIG Work Plan.
Supervises the performance of planned and unplanned compliance related audits, maintains compliance logs and related files.
Documents audit results clearly and reports them to the Director of Corporate Compliance and various committees.
Develops and performs Risk and Compliance education and training for all employees.
Assists in internal compliance investigations and responds to external compliance related investigations under the direction of the Compliance Officer.
Performs review of Risk and Compliance manuals and policies, develops new policies as needed.
Maintains current certification in healthcare compliance (CHC) and remains current regarding applicable existing, pending, and proposed legislation involving all aspects of Corporate Compliance including Medicare/Medicaid, and healthcare fraud and abuse.
Serves as a resource to all hospital departments in the area of risk identification and mitigation.
Serves as a member of multiple committees as assigned.
Performs other work duties as assigned or requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Self-motivated with administrative/organizational abilities.
Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Detail and result-oriented.
Holds a current Missouri Registered Professional Nurse license.
Minimum of three to five years of nursing experience.
Minimum of three to five years of healthcare risk management and/or healthcare compliance experience preferred.
Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or Certified professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred.
