Western Connecticut Health Network is seeking a Risk Manager – Hospital for its Risk Management Department. The Risk Manager manages hospital clinical risk programs, with the objective of maintaining patient safety, enhancing quality care, and minimizing risk to the assets of the network.
Effectuate the clinical operations of the risk management program at the direction of the Administrative Director of Risk Management.
Provides real-time clinical risk management advice, manages the program for clinical risk identification, investigation, and reduction; maintains currency of clinical risk management information; performs clinical risk assessment surveys; and assesses loss potential.
Collaborates with other WCHN Risk Managers to provide twenty four hour/seven days per week coverage in response to real-time clinical risk questions for the Network.
Directly conducts or oversees the investigation and analysis of actual and potential risks and assesses professional liability and possibility of legal action.
Directly interfaces when warranted, with patients and families to promptly resolve potential issues.
Conducts or oversees interviews of Network personnel involved with events, identifying immediate and long term risk issues, corrective action, and educational opportunities.
Collaborates with Quality and Clinical partners on Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) to identify ways to reduce threats to safety, quality, and organizational assets, and works with key stakeholders to ensure implementation of corrective action that minimizes risk.
Conducts analyses of data to identify trends and areas of opportunity with regard to risk management, safety, quality, and satisfaction.
Collaborates with Quality and Patient Relation partners in the review of patient complaints and grievances with clinical risk concerns, including determination of severity level, referrals to appropriate individuals for action and follow up; and provide input on resolution as warranted.
Recommends appropriate revisions to existing policies and procedures to reduce the frequency of adverse events; Recommends ways to minimize risk through system changes, and drafts and recommends new policies and procedures that reduce risk and maintain adherence to current standards and requirements.
Assist in the development and implementation of educational programs designed to minimize the frequency and reduce the severity of actual and potential safety hazards throughout the network.
Chairs and participates on select committees focused on reducing risk, enhancing quality and improving safety.
Works collaboratively with risk management personnel for other Network entities, including effective communication to assure coordinated efforts and consistent approaches across the Network.
Maintains confidentiality of information encountered through job activities.
This position requires a minimum formal education of Bachelor Degree and minimum of five years job-related experience.
CT RN, APRN, or PA license
Risk management experience
Experience leading teams and committees.
Criteria Desired (Not Required):
Master's Degree preferred. Management experience.
