This role is a clinical risk management consultant with a nursing leadership background who works within the Senior Living Center of Excellence. This individual possesses an understanding and knowledge of healthcare risk management and has experience in the assisted living and/or long term care industry. She or he is effective at providing clients with information and recommendations to manage risk and prevent losses in their respective senior living operation. This person’s interaction with clients requires astute interpersonal skills that support relationship building as well as collaboration with team members, at all levels of client organizations, including C-Suite, to promote client satisfaction and retention through advocacy activities. She or he develops and/or conducts training, presentations, clinical operations assessments, reports, webinars and industry related thought leadership. She or he identifies and reviews data analytics for individual clients and industry trends to assist in development of risk management strategies. This individual frequently travels to client locations and industry conferences to promote risk management best practices and represent Willis Towers Watson.
Assist clients’ with the evaluation and analysis of their organizational risk from a clinical, operational or enterprise risk management perspective.
Provide clients with direction and consultation regarding risk mitigation improvement opportunities to enhance organizational performance.
Work in collaboration with all team members to identify and develop clients’ strategic risk management service plans that consider client specific goals and objectives, operational performance and claim history.
Serve as a resource for data analytic development focused on metrics to improve the client’s ability to identify areas for improvement, monitor outcomes and make decisions designed to produce positive results.
Provide clinical risk management consultation for clients’ by assessing and analyzing high risk, high volume and problem prone clinical areas and provide recommendations to improve performance and reduce losses.
Conduct on-site reviews of clinical and operational risk management performance at client locations; complete detailed reports and utilize information learned from the site visits to assist clients with risk management strategies, share knowledge with the team and contribute to industry expertise.
Develop and conduct risk diagnostics utilizing tools and criteria to improve client operations in the area of general/professional liability and workers compensation practices aimed at lower frequency and/or cost of risk. This includes working with clients’ management teams to complete a detailed assessment of policies, practices, programs and risk management activities. Diagnostics will include findings, analysis and recommendations for structure, resource allocation, process improvement and systems for overall cost of risk reduction.
Collaborates with claims leaders and consultants within Risk Control and Claim Advocacy practice (RCCA) on findings and/or the evaluation of current internal and external incident reporting and claims processes, as well an assessment of existing risk avoidance, risk mitigation, safety and loss control programs related to clients’ operations and their residents’, associates’ and visitors’ safety.
Develop and conduct power point and web-based training programs for clients, professional organizations and industry conferences. Include planning of annual educational calendars, development of presentation materials tailored to clients’ operations on high-risk clinical areas, critical administrative and operational risk management and methods for monitoring outcomes.
Serve as a resource to internal team members, underwriters, business partners and the industry on clinical and operational risk management subject matter in the senior living industry.
Collaborates with the Vice President of Clinical Risk Services on thought leadership and initiatives to advance and promote the Willis Towers Watson Senior Living Center of Excellence.
Participate in planning, organizing and executing the Willis Towers Watson, Senior Living Center of Excellence Conference on relevant industry topics conducted for clients and prospects.
Education and Experience:
Completed educational preparation in an accredited school to become a licensed professional registered nurse. (Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree)
Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
Master’s degree in related field preferred.
Five years of experience in the senior living industry.
Seven years’ experience of progressive healthcare management roles.
Experience in training, presentations, writing reports and preparing other documents for executive review.
Job Skills and Knowledge:
Excellent oral and written communication skills including platform presentation skills and writing formal papers, responses to Requests for Proposal, and executive summaries.
Ability to research, analyze, and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, underwriters, senior living industry experts and the general public.
Ability to interpret and evaluate loss trends, claims history and actuarial data to support team and client initiatives.
Ability to present solutions to operational risks that impact residents, staff and the clients business.
Able to conduct operational assessments, synthesize information so that action items can be identified to help clients, provide solutions for practical problems within a context of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to use Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Power Point, basic Excel) including a cursory ability to manipulate spreadsheets and a database
Ability to work independently, establish and prioritize assignments and produce results towards goals and objectives.
Licenses and Certifications:
Active Licensed Registered Nurse required
Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management upon hire or obtained within the first year of employment.
