Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking The Director of Risk Management for Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences. These activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Acts as a strategic partner with the Executive Director of Risk Management and other senior management in providing key leadership and coordination of health care risk management within RBHS and the organization.
Leads and manages the RBHS risk management program with broad guidelines established by the Rutgers Executive Director of Risk Management, with primary emphasis being given to the risks associated with Professional Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Directors and Officers Liability Employment Practices Liability and Data Breach and Security.
Is responsible for identifying and attaining early resolution of adverse circumstances wherever possible, for directing the vigorous defense of cases.
Maintains awareness of relevant N.J. case law and directs the overall management of the self-insured professional liability and litigation management on behalf of RBHS.
Coordinates and manages data management and analysis system for the organization’s loss control program, including preparation of reports and analysis for internal and external usage.
Manages and supervises staff and claim issues with respect to the RBHS Workers’ Compensation self-insurance programs.
Plans and manages the effective administrative operations of the RBHS – Risk Management and Insurance unit.
Reviews RBHS contracts and provides OGC and other departments with recommendations regarding insurance provisions and other issues that might impact upon liability.
Remains up-to-date on risk management best practices through attendance at seminars, conferences, membership in healthcare risk management organizations and, also, through available healthcare literary resources.
Develops and coordinates implementation of departmental and system policies and procedures that affect liability exposures.
Minimizes risk by responding to all regulatory/insurance survey report recommendations/deficiencies.
Bachelor’s of Science Degree required, preferably in nursing or a related healthcare field.
Ten years’ experience in healthcare risk management, including professional liability claims/litigation management; including four (4) years of management experience in a health-related position comparable to Rutgers-RBHS; experience with multi-line risk management progress.
Experience in Clinical Loss Prevention and Patient Safety Training.
Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be seen as an expert in the field of healthcare risk management, having broad knowledge of the healthcare industry.
Must possess unquestioned integrity and ethics.
Must have strong computer skills consisting of MS Office Suite.
J.D. Degree accompanied by material experience in healthcare risk management (as described under Requirements)
Master of Science in Jurisprudence accompanied by material experience in healthcare risk management (as described under Requirements).
Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and/or Associate in Risk Management designations.
Insurance and/or Risk Management training under auspices of professional organizations such as Risk and Insurance Management Society or the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management.
