The Risk Manager (RM) is responsible for reviewing, summarizing, analyzing, presenting and monitoring various medical staff peer review functions; loss prevention and reduction; claims management, and patient safety related quality improvement activities. The RM is primarily responsible for the identification and documentation of clinical cases of interest, coordinating and tracking the review process and working with the clinical staff to resolve issues. The RM oversees and reviews the reports entered into the electronic incident reporting system (e.g., Quantros), and works with the clinical and medical staff throughout the organization to assure a robust review process that includes identifying the appropriate level of review, appropriate reviewer, the severity level of the incident, and appropriate immediate and longer term actions. The RM conducts investigations and prepares reports as required by external regulatory agencies related to incidents and incident reporting. Examples of mandated reports include: Serious Reportable Events (SRE) reporting to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Annual, Semi-annual and Safety and Quality Reports (SQRs) to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine. The RM is the hospital liaison for legal cases between lawyers and staff and is accountable for providing documents as requested by legal counsel.
Bachelor's degree and current registered nurse required. Master's degree preferred. 5-7 years' of relevant experience in hospital health care , quality improvement, patient safety and/or risk management. Two years of supervisory or management experience preferred. CPHRM preferred.
