JOB SUMMARY: This position is accountable to assist the System-wide Director, Risk Management in meeting system-wide hospital and departmental risk management goals and objectives.
MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES: Assists Director in developing and implementing departmental and system-wide risk management activities to ensure a proactive risk management program throughout the system. Provides in-service educational opportunities on risk management topics throughout the system. Provides risk management assistance/guidance to providers and staff throughout the system. Serves as a liaison with departments regarding risk management issues and concerns. Provides written recommendations after the visit through e-mail or written reports. Follows up to make sure measures have been taken to insure that the recommendations have been implemented. 30 %
Conducts and/or assists in investigation, reporting and resolution of claims referred to the Risk Management Department. This includes establishing and maintaining claim files of potential and asserted claims; managing and coordinating the flow of related information and documentation between the Risk Management Department and other departments, attorneys, insurance companies, relevant healthcare system committees, etc.; and manages all documentation from the discovery process, prepared in anticipation of litigation and any other information pertinent to resolution of any potential or asserted claim. All interactions on potential and asserted claims are documented in the computerized risk management system in a timely manner. Provides site risk assessments in clinical areas and across the System as requested. 30 %
Develops in-service presentations on risk management topics that are specific to the risk issues of a particular department/setting. 20 %
Attends System-wide committees and task force meetings as requested. Participates as a member of System-wide committees as required within the organizational structure. Attends staff-attorney interviews, depositions and trials as requested by Director. Facilitates Root Cause Analysis meetings as requested by the Patient Safety Breakdown Task Force (PSBTF) and documents the findings and action plans. Conducts and presents investigations at the request of PSBTF and senior leadership. 20 %

EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in nursing degree required
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING: Licensed to practice nursing in North Carolina. Must have valid driver's license. if driving Cone Health vehicle, must have 5 years of driving experience and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
EXPERIENCE: At least 3 years in healthcare risk management and 2 years in handling healthcare general and professional liability claims.
